Nation's Largest Roofing Company Brings Awareness to
Global Warming Solutions with Stylish Globe

Skokie, IL - May 2007 She'll be the talk of the town, with a shining steel tiara of the Chicago skyline and living plants dressing her tresses and accentuating her world-class figure. America's next super model? No, she's Gracie Green Roof, the green roof globe sponsored by Skokie-based Tecta America Corp., as part of the upcoming public art exhibition Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet, premiering along Lake Michigan in Chicago, beginning June 2007.

Gracie Green Roof is not only beautiful she's environmentally friendly as well. Her custom-designed green roof will illustrate green roof construction as one solution to help reduce global warming, while doubling the life span of conventional roofs and reducing heating and cooling costs.

The globe, which was designed by Chicago artist Carol Luc, will sport a cut steel tiara of the Chicago skyline and "hair" consisting of living plants, which will be various types of sedum and other drought-tolerant species, which comprise most green roofs. Not unlike a giant Chia-pet, Gracie's hair will grow and fill in over the duration of the exhibit, which is expected to be in place through October 2007.

"I was excited to be a part of this project because of my personal concern for the environment, a love of nature, a belief in the power of community to advance change," said Luc. "It's a tremendous opportunity to connect to a wider audience through art."

In addition to Luc, students from Evanston Township High School in Evanston, IL, worked on the cut steel tiara that represents the Chicago skyline. The students welded, cut and rolled the globe's crown in welding class, with the help of ETHS Welding and Metals Instructor, James Koutsoures.

"Gracie will bring green roofing technology to eye level, and help illustrate how green roofs can provide a solution to the climate crisis," Luc said. "Who can resist stopping to enjoy such beauty and the radiant face of a happy globe?"

Gracie will meet her public during the Grand Opening of the Cool Globes exhibit on June 1st at the Field Museum on Museum Campus in Chicago.
